A chocolate marble cake is a classic treat that combines the rich flavor of chocolate with the light and fluffy texture of vanilla cake in a beautiful marbled pattern.
Here’s a simple recipe to make a delicious chocolate marble cake at home.
Ingredients
- 1¾ cups (220g) all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, at room temperature
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¾ cup (180ml) milk, at room temperature
- ¼ cup (25g) cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons hot water
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven and Prepare the Pan:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan or loaf pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Cream Butter and Sugar:
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla:
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Combine with Dry Ingredients:
- Alternately mix in the dry ingredients and milk into the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Prepare Chocolate Batter:
- Take 1 cup of the batter and mix it with the cocoa powder and hot water in a separate bowl until smooth.
- Marble the Batter:
- Pour half of the vanilla batter into the prepared pan. Add half of the chocolate batter in dollops over the vanilla batter. Repeat with the remaining batters. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the batters together to create a marbled effect.
- Bake:
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve:
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips:
- To ensure a moist cake, don’t overmix the batter once the flour is added.
- For a more pronounced marble effect, don’t over-swirl the batter.
- You can also bake this cake in a bundt pan for a more decorative presentation.
Enjoy your homemade chocolate marble cake with a dusting of powdered sugar or a dollop of whipped cream for extra indulgence!
